–– Theme of the Year 2009-2010
Dear Fellow Toastmasters of District 85,
2009-2010 is a transitional year for China Toastmasters. We are excited about welcoming our fellow Toastmasters from Hong Kong and Macau to join us in the next year. We are also looking forward to reforming our district into t wo and eventually three districts in the next couple of years to cover the vast land of Greater China. To achieve this, we need to lay a solid foundation in our current clubs and further develop our members skills in communication and leadership.
With this in mind, we chose our theme of the year to echo the Toastmasters International Presidential theme: Confidence. Leadership. Service. We would like to call on every member in District 85 to enhance your confidence and leadership and provide service to others.
Confidence
We find our confidence in every public speech we deliver in our clubs. Every feedback from our audience, be it a smile, a nod, or sometimes quiet tears, tells us that what we say resonates with them and inspires us to deliver our next speech to share more. I call on every member to prepare your every speech well: read your manual to find out the project requirements, talk to your mentor to seek for advice, and rehearse your speech for at least 5 times. Preparation makes perfect! You will find more confidence in yourself when you are delivering a well prepared speech.
Leadership
Toastmasters is a risk free environment for us to practice our leadership skills. We learn how to lead by taking on various leadership roles. Grab the opportunity to be a leader to learn the arts and science of leadership.
Service
Your confidence as a speaker and skills as a leader will enable you to provide service to more people and expand your circle of influence. I call on every member to serve in your club, area, division or district when the opportunity arises. We need your service to have Toastmasters reach more men and women so that they also can enjoy the benefits of Toastmasters.
Fellow members, let's together embark on the journey of confidence, leadership and service to paint a brighter picture for your own tomorrow and the future of Toastmasters in China!
