Yingdan
(Lucy) Liu, ACS/ALB
Area 23
Yingdan (Lucy) served the members and clubs within Area 23 with
a high level of passion and commitment to make them the best clubs possible.
In many ways she succeeded with this mission, as this area had more Educational
and Leadership awards earned by members than any other area in China (to date 29
awards or 13.8% of all the awards earned in China this year)!
Yingdan also hit the ground running in developing new clubs
within her area - despite losing one club (a club that kept her from having
enough paid clubs in the area to be eligible for the Distinguished Area
Program); the area ended the year with three new clubs - more than any other
area in China. While not ready to be chartered yet, there are an
additional three clubs being developed that will be chartered shortly after the
beginning of the new 2008-2009 Toastmaster Year.
During the course of the year, Yingdan also chose to help build
the leadership skills of other leaders within her Area by working closely with
the officers of clubs to overcome potential problems in membership attendance
and member retention. Yingdan and her small, but very engaged team of
Assistant Area Governors helped their clubs and those developing in their area
and in other areas of the division by being available to answer questions or
assist them by visiting the club. Yingdan was also instrumental in the success
of the 2008 Spring Conference in Shanghai through her leadership of the
Conference Sponsorship Team and serving as one of the Conference Hosts she
ensured that over 350 members and guests were able to have an enjoyable
experience.
It is for these and Yingdan's consistent efforts on behalf of
the members and clubs in her area as well as her devotion and commitment as a
leader in the division that she is being recognized as the 2007-2008 District
85P Area Governor of the Year.
