Rebecca Hong, ACS/CL
Division E

From the day she was elected as Division E Governor for 2007-2008 Rebecca was consistently moving forward to ensure that the members and clubs assigned to her division would receive the highest level of assistance from her and the large team she built to assist in this mission.  Rebecca began by seeking leaders from across the division that could assist with the mission and in the process appointed her five Area Governors and five Assistant Division Governors to help develop the plans for success within the Division.  Each of the Area Governors were also encouraged to build a team to assist them - through this the entire leadership team for the division grew to include twenty-six Assistant Division Governors, Area Governors and Assistant Area Governors - making it the largest leadership team in all of China (and perhaps the world)!

Throughout the year Rebecca and her team led all other divisions in the number of Educational and Leadership awards earned by members in the district.  To date, this stands at 117 awards or 55.71% of the total awards received by members in the district!

Rebecca led her team to use new marketing approaches for finding and developing Corporate Club by having a corporate HR information session where HR leaders from Shanghai and surrounding cities were invited to come and learn how a Toastmasters Club could benefit their organizations.  Some clubs were developed from contacts made in this session and many local clubs benefitted by getting new members referred to them by the HR leaders that attended the meeting.  During the 2007-2008 Toastmaster Year a total of nine new clubs were developed by Rebecca and her team.

Rebecca also wanted to take steps to ensure improved communication with the club leaders and members in her district.  Under her encouragement the leaders on her team developed a very professional Division Newsletter which was distributed by email to all officers and members in her division three times during the year.

Another sign of a successful Division is the number of clubs that achieve recognition from Toastmasters International for being Distinguished, Select Distinguished or President's Distinguished.  At the time of this award, eighteen out of twenty-seven clubs have achieved these honors -- more than any other division in China.

Finally, Rebecca stepped forward to lead the committee that planned and executed the 2008 Spring Conference in Shanghai which hosted our first International Guest Speakers (2001 World Champion of Public Speaking Darren LaCroix and Past International Director Jim Kokocki, DTM).  Over 350 members and guests attended this conference and took part in the training and contests offered during the Friday and Saturday session.

It is because of these items and Rebecca's consistent devotion to serving the members and clubs - not just in Division E, but throughout China, that she is being recognized as the 2007-2008 Outstanding Division Governor of the Year.
