"Everyone Excels"
A Message from our District Governor

Dear Toastmasters in China,

I feel so thrilled to have the opportunity to serve all of you in the coming year as District Governor. It is a great responsibility and big challenge for me. However I am confident to work together with my team to serve you better.

The theme I have chosen for our district is “The Courage to Conquer; Everyone Excels! ” Jana, Barnhill, the incoming 2008-2009 International President, selected the first part as her Presidential theme for the year. Many of us need the courage to overcome life-altering events, to face the unknown and to begin a new life. It also takes courage to make the decision of joining Toastmasters and delivering speech in front of a group of people. Fortunately in Toastmasters, we can find the courage to conquer the obstacles that separate us from our goals because Toastmasters provides us a positive and supportive learning environment. No matter what is your level of public speaking or language proficiency while joining Toastmasters, you will excel if you work on the Toastmasters Education Program to the best of your ability.

Each of us as Toastmasters have had to use our individual courage to tackle some of the tasks we have faced as members – balance the time in our meeting with other commitments to our families and our jobs. Sometimes, we have had to lean on the strength of others to overcome the obstacles that we each have faced – but that is one of the greatest strengths we have in our organization, a commitment to help each other grow and overcome our challenges. I still remember a member of a club that made more than 60 “Ah’s” during their 5 minutes Ice-Breaker speech. After 4 years practice in Toastmasters, this member has now earned their Advanced Communicator Bronze award and is regarded as an accomplished and charismatic speaker. This member found the courage to conquer his fear of public speaking in Toastmasters, and now excels in Toastmasters.

I strongly believe that every one deserve a chance to succeed as long as you have the courage to conquer the obstacles. Toastmasters can let you get ready for your success. In Toastmasters, you find the courage to conquer the obstacles and you will excel in your life!
