FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

2007 Toastmasters International Annual Convention

Today's Date -- August 18, 2007

August 18, 2007

The top three officers for our District (myself, Lt. Governor of Education & Training Victor Yu and Lt. Governor of Marketing Eugene Tang) and Immediate Past Territorial Council Chairman Warwick John Fahy traveled to Phoenix Arizona in the United States to attend the 76th Annual Toastmasters International Convention.  The District officers began on Sunday with full day training sessions on Sunday and Monday, as well as interviewing the candidates for the International Board of Directors during their "free" time.

The actual convention began on Tuesday with speech contests for the full districts that are outside of the US & Canada to select two finalists to represent these districts in the finals for the World Championship of Public Speaking on the final day of the convention.  The agenda for the week had many educational programs and sessions for awards and recognition of Toastmasters from around the world.

The highlight for the members from China was at the 2006-2007 Hall of Fame  when first Jamie Shen was recognized as the winner of the International Taped Speech Contest (the third year that a member from China has placed in this contest) and Immediate Past Chairman Warwick John Fahy, DTM was presented with a Presidential Citation -- one of the highest awards a Toastmaster can be given by the organization.

The following was read when Warwick's Presidential Citation was announced:

Warwick John Fahy, DTM
Immediate Past Council Chairman
Territorial Council of China
Shanghai, China

A far-sighted visionary and efficient organizer, Warwick led his team of able and dedicated Toastmasters to expand the number of clubs in China from fewer than ten to more than forty in under three years.  In the process, Warwick trained and educated neophyte Toastmasters in the ways of organizational leadership while leading the clubs in China to becoming a territorial council and then a provisional district in less than two years.

District 85 is one of the districts of Toastmasters International and includes the clubs within the People's Republic of China except Hong Kong and Macau (currently 75 clubs and over 1700 members).
Toastmasters International is a world-wide non-profit organization that helps its members improve their public speaking and communication skills.  The World Headquarters of Toastmasters International is located in Rancho Santa Margarita California in the United States.
