Dear Members of District 85,
亲爱的第85准行政区的会员,
In August, I received a note from a new member in
one of the clubs in China which asked the following question I keep hearing
the officers in my club talk about the Distinguished Club Program. Please tell
me why this is important to me as a member.
今年8月,我收到了一封来自中国区某一个俱乐部新会员的来信。在信中,他问了这样一个问题在俱乐部里,我总会听到俱乐部领导们谈论卓越俱乐部计划(Distinguished
Club Program)。请你告诉我,这个计划对于像我这样一个普通会员来说有什么重要意义。
When I received this note it made me reflect upon
the methods used by myself and other leaders in the district to communicate the
goal of clubs achieving Distinguished Club status or higher each year. Perhaps
we have stressed too much on the outcome and not enough about the process and
understanding the roots of this program. This month, I would like to share with
all of our members in China my reply to this member. I hope that through this,
all members will better understand the Distinguished Club Program and how it is
all based upon their meeting their personal goals and objectives.
这封来信引起了我的反思:我和行政区的其他领导们每年为鼓励这些俱乐部努力争取达到卓越俱乐部或更高的目标所使用的方法是否合适呢?也许,我们太注重强调结果,而有些忽略这个计划的初衷和执行的过程了。在此,我想和你们分享一下我在回信中所做出的解答。通过回信,我希望,所有的会员可以更加深刻的了解卓越俱乐部计划以及它与每个人自身的目标和发展是如何息息相关的。
Thank you for your question about the
Distinguished Club Program and why it is important to you as an individual
member. The Distinguished Club Program (abbreviated as DCP) was designed by
Toastmasters International as a means to help clubs determine how well they
are meeting the needs of their members. The ten goals in the program
(outlined on our district web site at
www.chinatoastmasters.org/DCP.htm) are based upon the various
educational awards and actions that occur in all clubs around the world to
make the club a vibrant and enthusiastic environment for self-development
and learning. I like to think of the DCP in three parts the first being
education and self-development; the second about being fun and inviting; and
the third about leadership and management.

The largest portions of the DCP goals for all
clubs are the first six goals all based upon the educational awards that
an individual member can achieve through Toastmasters. These include the
Competent Communicator award, Advanced Communicator (Bronze, Silver and
Gold) awards, Competent Leader (both the old version for members that joined
before January 2006 and the new version for members that complete the new
Competent Leader Manual), Advanced Leader (Bronze and Silver) award, and,
the Distinguished Toastmaster award. While all of these awards are earned by
individuals, it is the responsibility of the club to schedule members for
speeches and projects that will allow the member to achieve their goals and
objectives. In our best clubs multiple members will achieve one or more of
these goals each year. Last year in China, our members in over twenty of the
clubs (more than started the year) achieved 106 educational awards a
record number from China.

The next two goals are all focused upon adding
new members to a club a sign of a healthy and vibrant club is its ability
to attract people to join. If a club is using the education program and the
members are giving speeches from their manuals and receiving targeted
feedback that supports their strengths while helping them to identify areas
to enhance their performance and is having fun in the process, a guest to
their meeting will easily see how the program can help them. Last year in
China over 480 members were added in 31 of the clubs not including the more
than 650 members that joined last year in new clubs that were developed
again, a record performance for China as the membership in club grew to an
all time high.

The final two goals in the DCP are focused upon
tasks and responsibilities of the officers of the club to ensure they are
both knowledgeable about how to help their club benefit their members, are
paying the international dues to our World Headquarters and are completing
tasks that are necessary to keep both the World Headquarters staff and our
district aware of the leaders currently serving in the clubs. The task of
attending club officer training was added this year when we became a
provisional district, however based upon the reports of the successful
trainings that have taken part all over China since June, over 65% of the
officers of the clubs have attended and received training (in some cases,
the Area Governors have visited the clubs and given the training to the
officers that could not attend the Division training sessions) designed to
help them help their clubs to be a better and more enjoyable experience for
all of the members.

I hope you can now see that how the DCP is
designed, built and, hopefully, managed with you and all of your fellow
members in mind. The program is built to allow you and your clubs, as the
Mission of the Club states, to provide a mutually supportive and positive
learning environment in which every member has the opportunity to develop
communication and leadership skills, which in turn foster self-confidence
and personal growth.
我真心地希望你现在可以明白,DCP是如何为你和所有会员而设计、构建和管理的。这项计划的构建可以使你和你的俱乐部成为像Toastmasters使命里所讲的那样创造相互支持和积极学习的环境,在这里每个人都有机会锻炼沟通和领导能力,增强自信心,使个人得到成长。
For 2007-2008, I hope that all clubs currently in
the District will aim at achieving Distinguished or better status by the end of
the year. In the process every club will be stronger and more enjoyable for its
members and will allow them to achieve the mission of the club to achieve self
confidence and personal growth.
