TI Board of Directors Approves D85 to Full District

Today's Date -- February 16, 2008

At the Annual Open Board of Directors Meeting the Toastmasters International Board of Directors approved the proposal submitted by the leadership of District 85P to change the status of the district from Provisional to Full District effective on July 1, 2008.  International President Chris Ford said "The Board was very impressed by both the proposal and presentation submitted by the District for consideration. It was clear from the exceptional work that has already been accomplished and the potential for future growth and development within the district that it should be granted Full District status as soon as possible."

The change in the district will allow members in China to compete beginning in 2009 with other clubs and district in the International Speech Contest (World Championship of Public Speaking) by sending the winner of the district contest to  the International Convention (this process is being reviewed and will be changed to Regional Competitions in the future).  Additionally, there are also improved compensation for the required travel to the International and Regional conventions for the senior leaders in the district, which will allow the district to focus more funding on club programs within the district.

District 85 is one of the districts of Toastmasters International and includes the clubs within the People's Republic of China except Hong Kong and Macau (currently 75 clubs and over 1700 members).
