FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

2008-2009 District Officer Nominations

Today's Date -- April 13, 2008

Dear District and Club Officers,

I am very pleased to present to you in this notice the names of the members that were selected by the Nomination Committee to run for office at this year’s Spring Conference in Shanghai.  The election will take place during the District Council meeting scheduled for the afternoon of May 31, 2008.

The 2008-2009 District Nomination Committee began meetings in early March.  The Committee was tasked with determining if prospective candidates met the minimum requirements for the offices they hade been nominated for; to seek out additional prospective candidates for offices; and, interview each prospective candidate.  The Committee was chaired by Fen Hsing, CTM/CL and had representatives from each of the current divisions within the District – the members were: Andy Guo, ACB (Division E), Honest Shi (Division N), Peter Thong, CC (Division N), Jane Lee, CC/CL (Division S) and Jean Lin, CTM/CL (Division N).  Positions reviewed were the three executive leader positions (District Governor, Lt. Governor of Education & Training and Lt. Governor of Marketing) and the Division Governor positions.  Due to the growth in the district and expected continued growth in the coming year, there is a plan to have five Divisions in 2008-2009 – splitting the current East and North divisions.  The current alignment proposals are still being finalized (these will be forwarded to the members of the District Council by the end of next week), however the current plan is to split the North into Divisions A & B, the East into Divisions C & D and the South will be designated as Division E.

Here are the names of candidates for office for 2007-2008 and the office they will be seeking:

District Executive Leaders Nominees
District Governor Victor Yu, ACS/CL
Lt. Governor of Education & Training Rebecca Hong, ACS/CL
Lt. Governor of Marketing  Andrew Garcia, CC/CL
Division Governor Nominees
Division A Rolf Chew, ACS
Division B Bonnie Zhuang, ACB/CL
Division C Michelle Lee, CTM/CL
Division D Lucy Liu, ACS/ALB
Syna Ruan, CC/CL
Division E None

To learn more about the candidates for office, you can refer to their candidate profiles located on our District Website at 2008-2009 Excom Candidates.

No candidates were nominated for Division E Governor and despite efforts by the Committee; they were not able to find a qualified candidate for this office.  Should there not be a candidate nominated and elected for this office at the conference, by TI Policies stated in the District By-laws, the incoming District Governor will appoint a qualified member to serve in the position and then this person will be ratified to serve at the Fall District Council Meeting.

If you are thinking about running for an office from the floor at the Spring Conference, please refer to the procedures for the election which can be found at 2008-2009 District Elections.  All members nominated from the floor must meet the minimum requirements to serve in the position they are seeking – you can learn more on what these qualifications are by going to General Election Info.  Best of luck to all of the candidates in the upcoming elections.

Sincerely,

Keith Ostergard, DTM
2007-2008 District Governor
