FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 2007-2008 District Recognition AwardsToday's Date -- June 20, 2008 Each year a district governor has the option of recognizing outstanding district leaders (Division & Area Governors) and a member for the contributions they have made in the success of the district by selecting an Outstanding Division Governor of the Year, an Outstanding Area Governor of the Year, and, an Outstanding Toastmaster of Year. Given the high performance and success of the district, I knew early on in the year that District 85P would be recognizing three individuals with these awards - it only remained to determine who from all of the worthy candidates should be selected for this recognition. To help in the decision process of selecting leaders and members who have significantly contributed district leaders were asked for their input and ideas for the Division and Area Governor awards, as well as their thoughts on potential candidates for the District Outstanding Toastmaster of the Year. For the Outstanding Division Governor award, all of our Division Governors this year are worthy of the recognition. Cindy Jensen, CC/CL (Division N), Rebecca Hong, ACS/CL (Division E) and Jane Lee, CC/CL (Division S) have given their time and energy supporting the Area Governors and the clubs in their Division and all should end the year as President's Distinguished Division Governors - the highest award level a Division can achieve. All are indeed deserving of all the praise and gratitude I can give, as they made the success of the district a simple matter for the senior leaders and I to manage. For the Outstanding Area Governor award, many of the fourteen Area Governors will be recognized by Toastmasters International for achieving Distinguished, Select Distinguished or President's Distinguished Area. Each of these leaders contributed countless hours assisting clubs by answering questions, holding training sessions, coaching officers and visiting their clubs to ensure the club was doing all it could to be an outstanding club for their members. All are deserving of praise - the success of the district is very reliant upon the efforts each Area Governor gives to the clubs in their area - I thank them all for their contribution to the overall success and contributions this year. Individual members were also allowed an opportunity to give their input for the District Outstanding Toastmaster of the Year award by submitting their nominations of members to receive this recognition. Over 70 individual members were nominated by other members and leaders in the district for consideration for this award. All that were nominated have contributed greatly to the success of their home clubs, their areas and division and ultimately to the success of the district. I have sent each a note thanking them individually for their efforts, but if you or your club nominated someone for the award, please make sure you thank them again for their efforts After weighing all of the input from all of the sources I had one final discussion with Incoming District Governor Victor Yu, ACS/CL and then made my final decisions. I am very pleased to announce the recipients of the District Recognition Awards for 2007 - 2008:
You can learn more about what each of these officers and members did this year to be selected to receive these awards by going to the Awards & Honors page and clicking upon their names to see the information that was sent to Toastmasters International about each of them when I informed the World Headquarters of their selection. Rebecca, Yingdan and Lin, as well as many other officers and members will be recognized at the luncheon during the 2008 Fall Conference in Guangzhou (date and location to be announced). Rebecca, Yingdan and Lin will each receive a plaque noting their selection for these honors at that time. Please join me in congratulating Rebecca, Yingdan and Lin for their accomplishments and service to the district, clubs and members of the district. Through their efforts the district has become strong, larger and successful. Sincerely, Keith Ostergard, DTM
